Hello New Year!

Happy New Year!

It’s the first day back to work for me after enjoying winter break home with my boys. I’m a little sad to see it come to an end, but excited to get back to work too. We have a lot of great things happening this year, and I can’t wait to get started.

Last night I was reading “The Best Yes” by Lysa Terkeurst. This is a book that I started ages (maybe even a year or more) ago, but put down after a couple chapters, and now I know why. While I really liked what I was reading back then, it wasn’t really speaking to me. When I picked it up again yesterday it’s like I can feel every word, meant just for me.

In one of the chapters I was reading last night she talks about how we “steer where we stare”. I was immediately transformed to my 15-16 year old self sitting in my driver’s education classroom. One of the (few?) things I’ve always remembered and thought about from that class was my teacher talking about the importance of looking straight ahead and keeping oncoming cars and the lines at the side of the road in our periphery vision because what we look at is the direction we will move the car towards.

Are you looking ahead? Or are you trying to look back, go back (you can’t). Are you looking at the cars passing you on the highway, going places you want to go or think you should go? Or are you staring at the shoulder, the ditch on the side of the road, the roadblocks, difficulties, things you are afraid of?

Where you stare, you will steer. Keep your eyes forward, staring down your path. Yes, be aware of what is going on around you, but don’t let it distract you. Look in the direction that you are going, the direction of the goals and plans you have established for yourself and your business. Keep moving in that direction. That focus, that movement is the only thing that will get you there.

Where are you headed today?
